01.About

I started out imaging Chromebooks and tracing dead switch ports as a student intern in a school district's technology department. Today I'm a Systems Engineer at BlueCastle IT Solutions, an MSP where I support servers, networks, cloud services and endpoints across many client environments.

Alongside that work I've always written code. I've built Minecraft server plugins in Java, Discord bots, a full-stack travel app in Angular and Express, and a booking platform with Square payments for a wildlife foundation. In my CS-499 capstone I took three older projects and rebuilt them around security, algorithms and database design.

Working in operations shaped how I write software. I build things to be observable, recoverable and easy for the next person to support. I run a homelab of Proxmox, Docker, Tailscale and Cloudflare Tunnel where I try out ideas before they go anywhere real.

  2. Independent Software Developer @ Projects

    • Design and build system integrations for 20+ clients. Most of the work connects the platforms a business already relies on, such as payments, scheduling, CRM, accounting and internal tools, so data moves between them reliably instead of being re-entered by hand.
    • Build lightweight backend services and middleware around third-party REST APIs and webhooks: authentication, data mapping and validation, retries and error handling, plus logging so issues can be traced when something upstream changes.
    • Automate recurring workflows such as record syncing, notifications, reporting and scheduled jobs, so they run on their own and save each client's staff ongoing manual work.

Action Wildlife Foundation Platform

A full website for a wildlife foundation: a public site, customer accounts, and a staff admin with encounter booking paid through Square. It handles per-person capacity, seasonal schedules, age-banded admission pricing, digital waivers, and QR tickets that are scanned at the gate.

  • Express with services split so each file has one job. The pricing, slot-planning, season and capacity logic is pure and unit-tested.
  • Square Payment Links with signed webhooks: a confirmed payment marks the order paid, issues a ticket code and enables the gate lookup.
  • MySQL in Docker for local development. Deployed to Railway with auto-deploy on push, and the whole booking flow is covered by a scripted smoke test.

Capstone: Three Rebuilt Projects

I took three earlier course projects and rebuilt each one, covering software engineering, algorithms and data structures, and databases.

the three enhancements
  • Secure auth (Android/Java): a warehouse inventory app that stored plaintext passwords now uses salted SHA-256 hashing, with a migration of the SQLite schema. code ↗
  • Algorithms (C++ → Python): a monolithic BST course planner became a modular Python package behind a CourseManager facade, with linked-list and hash-map structures added and benchmarked against Big-O expectations. code ↗
